PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material for a battery excellent in productivity and achieving excellent performance in rapid charging and discharging and a high energy density, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising the active material, and a battery pack comprising the battery.SOLUTION: An active material for a battery in accordance with an embodiment contains a niobium-titanium complex oxide and an element M. The molar ratio (M/Ti) of the element M to Ti in the active material satisfies the formula (I): 0<M/Ti≤0.5. The molar ratio (Nb/Ti) of Nb to Ti in the niobium-titanium complex oxide satisfies the formula (II): 1≤Nb/Ti≤5. The element M is at least one kind of element selected from the group consisting of B, Na, Mg, Al, Si, S, P, K, Ca, Mo, W, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, and Fe. |
