Process for the preparation of sulphur-modified polychloroprene, in alkaline aqueous emulsion and in the presence of radical initiator, characterized in that one or more organic polysulphides are added to the reaction mixture, these organic polysulphides being chosen from: 1) diisobutylthiuram or tetraisobutylthiuram disulphides to which have been optionally added (2) dialkylthiuram or tetraalkylthiuram disulphides in which the alkyl group is different from isobutyl and contains from 3 to 5 carbon atoms.
