PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an alumina porous body containing calcium hexaaluminate, which has excellent thermal resistance, resistance to thermal impact and corrosion resistance, and can be produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: The method of producing the alumina-based porous body includes a process for forming a mixture containing an alumina powder and a powder of a calcium salt, a process for firing the formed body, and a process for dissolving/removing a material soluble in an acid or a water-soluble material from the obtained fired body.
