The invention relates to a method for embossing a separating membrane (11) of a pressure transmitter (5) that comprises a membrane support (9) with a membrane bed (7). The aim of the invention is to provide a method which allows a shape of the separating membrane (11) to be obtained that is optimally adapted to the shape of the membrane bed (7). For this purpose, a planar squat cylindrical piece (11a) of the separating membrane is welded onto the membrane support (9), a pressure receiving chamber (13) enclosed by the welded squat cylindrical piece of the separating membrane (11a) is filled with a lubricant, and the squat cylindrical piece of the separating membrane (11a) is used to produce the separating membrane (11) by embossing the shape of the squat cylindrical separating membrane (11a) onto the membrane bed (7) while lubricant is present in the pressure receiving chamber (13).
