A blank 2, for forming a carton, has a side wall 4 having free ends, the side wall 4 comprising a first panel 6 connected to a second panel 8, a first lower flap 16 hingedly connected to the first panel 6, and a second lower flap 18 hingedly connected to the second panel 8. A hinged base panel 50 is hingedly connected to the first lower panel 16 and a base locking panel 56 hingedly connected to the second lower panel 18. The blank 2 is assembled by a method comprising the steps of folding the first lower flap 16 above the first panel 6, and folding the second lower flap 18 over the second panel 8. The hinged base panel 50 having a face furthest from the side wall is affixed to a corresponding part of the base locking panel 56. The first 6 and second panels 8 are then folded relatively towards each other, and the free ends of the side wall 4 fixed together, the hinged base panel 50 and the base locking panel 56 are then moved together to form the base of the carton. The carton may have an insert in the form of the retaining means (fig 5). |
