PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably detect the light intensity of an ambient outside light of an electro-optical device while suitably eliminating the influence of the light emitted by the electro-optical device. SOLUTION: The electro-optical device (1) includes display means (100, 140) for emitting a display light, a light emission stop means (120) for stopping the emission of the display light, a photodetecting means (131) for receiving the outside light during a period in which the display light stops emitting, an integrating means (112) for integrating an amount of the outside light received by the photodetecting means, and a calculation means (114) for calculating the light intensity of the outside light on the basis of a required time for an integral of the amount of outside light to have exceeded the prescribed threshold.
