PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital-controlled switching power supply which has excellent intelligence and high-speed response at comparatively low costs and includes highly accurate overcurrent protection characteristics, and to provide its initial setting method. SOLUTION: The switching power supply includes a current control pulse generating means 32 comprising: a target value setting section 32a to output a variable value, a prescribed target value relating to the control of output current; a calculating section 32b for conducting a calculation processing relating to the control of the output current on the basis of the target value to output the calculated results; and a pulse generating section 32c for generating a current control pulse voltage for controlling the output current on the basis of the calculated results. The switching power supply further includes a current detecting circuit 38 for detecting an output current or the current flowing in a switching element TR1, and a current limit signal generating circuit 36 for outputting a current limit signal for limiting the current when the detected current exceeds the reference value set on the basis of the output of the current control pulse generating means 32.
