A hydraulic actuator including a cylinder 4 and a gland 22 which are releasably securable together is provided. The gland 22 has an internal surface which defines an axial passage for housing a piston rod 6, and an external surface. The internal surface of the gland has an internal circumferential groove 12, the external surface of the gland has an external circumferential groove 44. The gland 22 has a connecting passage 34 which connects the internal circumferential groove 12 and the external circumferential groove 44. The connecting passage 34 is in fluid communication with an external port 36 via a drainage passage 35 disposed through the gland 22. The internal circumferential groove 12 and the external circumferential groove 44 are located within the cylinder 4 when the cylinder 4 and gland (22) are secured together. |
