The invention relates to the metallurgical industry, namely, the acid processing of red mud produced during the manufacture of alumina, and can be used in waste utilization technologies of alumina refineries. A method of processing red mud by acid leaching comprises utilization as the lixiviate the soluble carboxylic fatty acids with number of carbon atoms in the molecule, at least 3, filtering the solution and separation of the extracted target products.
