A polyester resin produced by the polycondensation of monomer components comprising a terephthalic acid component and an ethylene glycol component as main components, in the presence of a compound of at least one element selected from the group consisting of the titanium group elements of Group 4A of the Periodic Table, characterized in that it contains the copolymerization components other than the terephthalic acid component and the ethylene glycol component in a content of 4 mol % or less relative to the total dicarboxylic acid components, and a formed article therefrom having been prepared by injection molding at 280 DEG C and having a thickness of 3.5 mm exhibits a difference between the absorbances at wave lengths of 395 nm and 800 nm of 0.05 or less; and a method for production thereof.
