PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surveying instrument using voice, especially, having a terminal unit capable of controlling and instructing the surveying instrument body by voice. SOLUTION: The surveying instrument having at least functions for measuring the distance and the angle of an object under test comprises a voice synthesizing output means which reports survey results and also is capable of reporting while an inputted operation and an inputted control are performed, a voice input means which operates the surveying instrument, and a voice synthesizing output means which reports survey results and repetitively reports an inputted operation for the operation inputted by the voice input means.
