FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of removing carbon monoxide from a crude fluid medium during real-time control of the amount of oxygen-containing fluid medium connected to the crude fluid medium; said method is carried out in a dense catalyst bed based on copper oxide which is at least partially reduced to copper. The method involves the following steps: a) providing a crude fluid medium containing carbon monoxide; b) measuring concentration of oxygen and carbon monoxide in the crude fluid medium or the reaction fluid medium; c) connecting the oxygen-containing fluid medium with the crude fluid medium to form a reaction fluid medium, wherein the amount of the oxygen-containing fluid medium connected to the crude fluid medium is controlled in order to achieve molar ratio O/CO in the reaction fluid medium of more than 1/1; and d) passing the reaction fluid medium over the catalyst based on copper oxide which is at least partially reduced to copper at operating temperature lower than 40°C, to obtain a purified fluid medium, wherein oxygen and carbon monoxide contained in the reaction fluid medium react in the presence the regenerated catalyst based on copper oxide to obtain carbon dioxide. The amount of the oxygen-containing fluid medium connected to the crude fluid medium is determined in real time. The method further involves: e) real-time measurement of the operating temperature of the reaction fluid medium; and f) real-time control of the amount of the oxygen-containing fluid medium connected to the crude fluid medium based on the real time-measured operating temperature of the reaction fluid medium passing over the regenerated catalyst based on copper oxide, the real time-measured flow rate of the reaction fluid medium passing over the regenerated catalyst based on copper oxide, and the given concentration of carbon monoxide in the crude fluid medium.
