PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in order to take a still picture during motion picture shooting, a trigger button for starting/stopping the motion picture shooting and a trigger button for taking a still picture use respectively different buttons but such a configuration disturbs small-sizing of an apparatus. SOLUTION: The video recording apparatus comprises: a motion picture processing unit for creating moving image data from a signal from an imaging means; a still picture processing unit for creating still picture data together with motion picture data from a signal from the imaging means; a recording unit for recording the motion picture data and the still picture data on a recording medium; an input unit for instructing start/stop of recording of the moving image data and recording of the still picture data in response to user operation; and a control unit for judging whether to record the still picture data or to stop recording the motion picture data during moving image data recording in accordance with the time from input start to stop due to the input unit.
