The method involves providing a sliding vane pump having a driven rotor (13) with blades (14, 16), which are aligned radial to a rotation axis of the rotor and discharges a fluid flow to a cam ring (18) enclosing the rotor. The blade (14) is supplied with a fluid medium if the idle rotor does not rests against an inner surface (18a) of the ring, if the vane pump is started and/or if the rotor starts running. The blade is pushed outwards against the ring by the fluid medium. An independent claim is also included for a sliding vane pump discharging a fluid flow.
