A loudspeaker (esp. of large size) has two or more individual speakers (5) arranged alongside one another in a single plane, a common plate-like large membrane (8) of rigid plastics foam or similar material being arranged on the membranes (7) of the individual speakers (5). Pref. the large membrane (8) consists of rigid polystyrene or polyurethane foam or material with similar properties. Also claimed is use of the above loudspeaker (1) for a loudspeaker box, e.g. a multiway loudspeaker box. USE/ADVANTAGE - In large halls or stadia, e.g. for concerts. The loudspeaker has improved efficiency and the loudspeaker box can have reduced dimensions for the same power or vice-versa.
