The closed circuit breathing apparatus using a gas mixture, for use by firefighters and divers, has a gas mixture flow (23) through an automatic valve (22) to keep the electrical and electronic components dry at the connection side (3) of the gas sensors (1), before it passes through an equalizing unit (31) in the breathing circuit (29,30). The automatic valve prevents the development of an underpressure in the antechamber (34), and the equalizing unit prevents an overpressure and backflow of moist breathing gas from the breathing circuit. The pressure equalizing at the gas sensors is maintained by their membranes, linked to the antechamber through the connection openings.
