A production process for a curved glass body from a glass bar blank comprises clamping the blank (2) between two relatively movable grippers (3,4) in a bending machine (1) in order to produce a given bend, heating (7) the bend region (Lo) to a bending temperature and moving the grippers to produce the required bend by free movement. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A bending machine as above;and (B) A curved glass rod formed as above.
