The device i.e. headlight (20), has a reflector, a gas discharge lamp, a diaphragm and a projection lens, which are arranged in housing (21). The housing has a set of closable openings e.g. service openings, for access to an inner area of the housing. A control device (25) is provided for closing one of the openings in the housing, and a latch fastener (27) is provided for fastening the control device on the openings. The control device has a closed control device housing (26) that includes a base plate (28) whose outer side is formed for closing one of the openings.
