It is an object of the present invention to provide a lithium secondary battery capable of suppressing the elution of Mn, the lithium secondary batteries being excellent in the cycle life and having a high energy density. A positive electrode material for the lithium secondary battery has a cubic spinel structure (space group Fd3m), and comprises a metal phosphate compound and a cubic metal oxide in a surface of a lithium manganese composite oxide represented by a composition formula LiMn x M 2-x O 4 (where 1.75‰¤x<2 and M represents one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Li, Mg, and Ni), wherein the metal phosphate compound contains lithium phosphate. |
