A method for optimising a subject-specific electrophysiological model (15) of a heart to provide a tool for diagnosis, therapy and pre-operative planning, the method comprising: (i) providing a generic simulation model (GSM) (1) of the electrophysiology of a heart; (ii) mapping the generic simulation model onto a three-dimensional reconstruction of a subject's cardiac anatomy (60);(iii) creating a subject-specific parameter vector (9) from subject-specific electro- physiological data; and (iv) using the mapped generic simulation model and subject-specific parameter vector to create a subject-specific model (19) of the heart, wherein, (a) the generic simulation model has been created with the use of recursion when calculating the spread of tissue excitability from a simulated cell node to its neighbours, and (b) the generic simulation model comprises a plurality of standard simulated cell nodes and one or more adapted simulated cell nodes, wherein the cell population of one or more of said adapted simulated cell nodes is altered when compared to a standard simulated cell node. |
