PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the reliability on the free stop, to perform the opening and closing operation with the small resistance and to make a free stop hinge compact in the free stop hinge capable of opening/closing an opening member and stopping at an arbitrary open angle. SOLUTION: The free stop state ca be ensured by the sliding resistance obtained by closely winding a sliding part 12a of a coil spring 12A to a fixed shaft 10A. When a rotary shaft 11 is rotated in the direction of an arrow OP as shown in an example, a first locking projection 12d is rotated by a first locking wall 11e of a first locking groove 11c, whereby a first winding end part 12b is curved to be close to a first small dismeter shaft part 10b. The coil spring does not tighten a large diameter shaft part 10a. Then a second pressing wall 11j of a second locking groove 11d presses a second locking projection part 12e, and the second winding end part 12c is rotated in the rewinding direction to the large diameter shaft part 10a, whereby the rotation can be smoothly performed.
