PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the timing of control commands to the cylinders of an engine more quickly, at engine restart. SOLUTION: In an engine 10, every cycle in its cylinders needs a 720-degree rotation of a crankshaft 12. The engine 10 has a cam position sensor 62, whose detection signals are decisive of whether the angle of the crankshaft 12 corresponds to the first or latter half of the cycle. When the engine 10 is stopped, the detection results of the camp position sensor 62 are stored. At the next start-up of the engine 10, unless the crankshaft 12 has been rotated during the stoppage of the engine 10, the cycle-related cylinder status is determined based on the information stored. |
