<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to simultaneously execute nitrification and denitrification in a treatment facility of an aerobic tank alone without the need for continuos addition of a hydrogen donator, such as methanol, by using a carboxylic acid having carbon number of a specific number or above as an essential component and particularly constituting the carboxylic acid of a straight chain saturated monocarboxylic acid. SOLUTION: This denitrification accelerating agent consists essentially of >=6C carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid preferably has a straight chain structure and is further preferably a saturated carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid is the saturated carboxylic acid having low solubility in water and having the straight chain structure, and as a result, a denitrifying bacterium may be sufficiently used as a hydrogen donator. The carboxylic acid is molded to a suitable shape, is deposited on a suitable carrier and is added and inserted into an anaerobic tank, by which a denitrification reaction is rapidly progressed. The carboxylic acid does not require the continuous addition of the hydrogen donator, such as methanol, for its low solubility into water and is capable of maintaining the denitrification reaction for a long period of time.</p> |
