CUTTING AND SPLICING APPARATUS FOR CONVEYOR BELTS AND A conveyor belt cutting and splicing apparatus (5) for joining the ends (10, 15) of one or more conveyor belts (2) together, the conveyor belt cutting and splicing apparatus (5) comprising: a frame assembly (27) including a belt support (25) for supporting conveyor belt ends (10, 15) generally adjacent to each other; a cutting mechanism (30) operatively mounted to the frame assembly (27) for cutting an end portion of at least one of the conveyor belt ends (10, 15) with the at least one conveyor belt end (10, 15) supported by the belt support (25); and a splicing mechanism (40) for joining the cut belt end to the other belt end with the belt ends (10, 15) supported on the belt support (25), wherein the belt support (25) comprises a pair of elongate platen devices (60, 65) with each platen device (60, 65) supporting a respective one of the conveyor belt ends (10, 15) thereon, the cutting mechanism (30) includes a cutting device (130) that is operable to travel in a longitudinal direction along the frame assembly (27) between the pair of elongate platen devices (60, 65) with the platen devices in a belt cutting position, the platen devices (60, 65) are spaced from each other to form a gap therebetween for cutting of the belt end portion, and the cutting device (130) includes a carriage (135) and a cutting blade (140) extending upwardly from the carriage (135) between and above the platen devices (60, 65) for cutting a portion of the at least one belt end (10, 15) extending over the gap between the spaced platens (60, 65) as both the carriage (135) and the cutting blade (140) travel in the longitudinal direction with the cutting blade (130) extending upwardly from the carriage (135) during the longitudinal travel thereof. |
