PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a food preservation device designed to be placed in a closed food housing space and contribute to preserving freshness of foods in the space through its deoxygenating action, and also designed to obviate such problems as cutting the amount of the oxygen scavenger to be used, elimination of the adverse effects on the environment after it is discarded and heat generation involved in oxidative action. SOLUTION: This food preservation device has such a scheme that, a specified support material is coated with a specified transition metal in the form of a metal colloid 22 so as to be disposed with the transition metal in minute amounts, and the transition metal is reacted with oxidative components in a food housing space so as to deoxygenate the space; furthermore, there are provided an adsorption body 12 with a volatile food preservative liquid adsorbed thereto and air-permeable coating films 14, 16, 18 covering the adsorption body so as to afford the above food preservative liquid thus adsorbed with a sustained release tendency via the above films 14, 16, 18 and transpire it, thereby obtaining synergistic effect owing to both deoxygenation and preservative liquid gas. |
