PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition which can be formed into a heat- resistant monodomain-oriented film by mixing a side-chain type cholesteric liquid crystal polymer with a low-molecular-weight crosslinking agent having a (meth)acryloyl group. SOLUTION: This composition contains (A) a side-chain type cholesteric liquid crystal polymer having the segment shown by the formula [R1 is H or methyl; A, B and D are each an organic group; and 1<=(n)<=100 and 0<=(m+p)<=100, segment having an optically active group and segment to give nematic orientation, as the repeating units, and (B) a low-molecular-weight crosslinking agent having at least one (meth)acryloyl group. This oriented film, keeping the component A monodomain-oriented and crosslinked by the component B, can be obtained by treating the above composition to be oriented and then crosslinking it by at least one of irradiation of electromagnetic wave and heating. This efficiently produces even the oriented film of large area.
