A lamp (10) utilizes a lamp base locking ring (12) to secure a lamp base shell (16) to the lamp envelope. A hollow light transmitting body (14) terminates in a neck (18) that includes threads (20) and a key-way (19). The lamp base locking ring (12) has an indentation (28) that extends into to the key-way (19) and is disposed around the circumference of the neck (18). The lamp base shell (16) is threaded onto the threads (20) of the neck (18).
