PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a different image for an observer positioned at a different observation position even when an observer is positioned at the center part of a display panel. SOLUTION: The image display device 1 includes: the display panel 2; a back light 5 with which the display panel 2 is irradiated with light; and a polarized light control liquid crystal panel 7 provided with a polarized light control area 7a where the light radiated from the back light 5 is separated to light having a first axis of polarization and is emitted, and a polarized light control area 7b where it is separated to light having a second axis of polarization and is emitted, and capable of changing the length in a direction X of the polarized light control areas 7a and 7b. The polarized light control liquid crystal panel 7 controls the range of an area X1 where the image is provided for the observer 10 and the range of an area X2 where the image is provided for the observer 20 by changing the length in the direction X of the polarized light control areas 7a and 7b, and provides the different images for the areas X1 and X2 by controlling the operation so that the area X1 may include the center part of the display panel 2.
