PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gate pulse generating circuits of an electric power converter in which upper and lower arms do not turn on at the same time even when control power supply to the gate pulse generating circuit is ceased. SOLUTION: The gate pulse generating circuits 1A and 1B of the electric power converter, having a switching leg comprising a pair of upper and lower arms 4A and 4B applied with a DC voltage between both terminals and having their middle points connected to an AC phase supply control electric power from control power supply means 6A and 6B, such that supply to the gate pulse generating circuit 1A for the upper arm and supply to the gate pulse generating circuit 1B for the lower arm are substantially separated; and the gate pulse generating circuit 1A and 1B for the respective arms have control power monitoring means 12A and 12B. If the control power monitoring means 12A and 12B detect abnormality, the outputs of gate pulses of the paired gate pulse generating circuits 4B and 4A are turned off, respectively.
