PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video-photographing device having a shock protective mechanism capable of preventing a recording medium from being broken when a shock after falling is more than expected, that is when the shock continues over a period set by a post fall shock protection timer, and to provide a video-photographing method therefor. SOLUTION: The device is provided with following means: a fall detection means which detects free fall; a fall judgment means which judges the falling state of the device on the basis of the output from the fall detection means; a post fall stoppage stability judgment means which judges the stability of the device on the basis of the output from the fall detection means and the output from the post fall shock protection timer; an optical shake correcting means which calculates the movement of a photographed subject; a focusing judgment means which judges whether a camera is focused on the subject; and a stability judgment means which judges the stability of the device on the basis of the output from the post fall stoppage stability judgment means, the output from the optically shake correcting means, and the output from the focusing judgment means and releases the shock protection of the shock protective mechanism.
