OPTICAL FIBER AND OPTICAL FIBER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimode optical fiber that can reduce load of digital processing required for signal restoration, and an optical fiber transmission system using the fiber.

SOLUTION: An optical fiber transmission system 301 includes: a multimode optical fiber 10; an optical transmitter 11 that outputs, to the multimode optical fiber 10, a signal light modulated with an input data signal; an optical receiver 14 that receives the signal light traveling through the multimode optical fiber 10 and outputs a receiving signal; and a FIR filter 15 that restores a data signal input to the optical receiver 11 from the receiving signal of the optical receiver 14 by adjusting a delay amount of a tap and a tap coefficient. The multimode optical fiber 10 includes a core 50 having a refractive index which stepwisely becomes smaller from the center axis toward the outside; a clad 54 outside the core 50 having a refractive index smaller than that of the core 50; and a low refractive index layer 53 between the core 50 and the clad 54 having a refractive index equal to or smaller than that of the clad 54.
