PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device and a coating method which can suck coating liquid transferred onto a belt-like substrate evenly in a surface without using a means for supporting the belt-like substrate and quickens permeation into the belt-like substrate of the coating liquid.SOLUTION: A coating device 1 applies coating liquid 8 to a belt-like substrate 5 continuously advancing. The coating device 1 includes a coating liquid receiving pan 11 in which the coating liquid 8 is filled and a gravure plate 12 which transfers the coating liquid 8 filled in the coating liquid receiving pan 11 to the belt-like substrate 5. The coating device 1 further includes an evacuation chamber 13 which is arranged on a position opposite to the gravure plate 12 and causes the coating liquid 8 to permeate the belt-like member 5 by sucking air in the belt-like substrate 5.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
