Antimicrobial polymers are obtained by polymerizing optionally substituted acrylamide monomers. Antimicrobial polymers are obtained by polymerizing monomers of formula (II). R<1> = H or Me; and R<2> and R<3> = H or 1-10C aliphatic hydrocarbyl. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) polymer blends comprising the antimicrobial polymers and at least one other polymer; and (2) the production of the polymers by chemically, thermally or radio-chemically initiated radical polymerization of monomers of formula (II).
