<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square-shaped conductor of low thermal expansion and low manufacturing cost, a manufacturing method thereof, and a lead wire which uses the square-shaped conductor. <P>SOLUTION: A square conductor 10 comprises a clad material, in which both surfaces of a core thin plate 11 are pinched with conductor thin plates 12a and 12b. Both side ends of the core thin plate 11 whose thermal expansion coefficient is 10 (×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C) or smaller are covered with the conductor thin plates 12a and 12b, whose volume resistivity is 5.0 (μΩ cm) or less.
