PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of informing a user of the non-correspondence of an input video signal in the case of a format not made to correspond by the input video signal at a low cost, in the video display device with an external input having the possibility of the inputs of signals excepting a specified format video signal in the device capable of displaying a video by the specified format video signal. SOLUTION: A synchronizing signal is extracted by a video-signal processor 16 from the video signal input from the external input 13, and whether or not the format is not made to correspond by the video signal is discriminated by a micro-computer 17 from the synchronizing signal. The non-correspondence of the input video signal is displayed on a display unit 15 in response to the result of a discrimination.
