<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct liquid type writing utensil which can prevent air from entering an ink accommodation chamber by preventing an ink drop (backward flow) and which has excellent writing performance without generating a defect of a writing fault or ink leakage. <P>SOLUTION: The writing utensil A having a writing part 10 made of a pen element including capillary force, ink 22 filled in an ink accommodation chamber 21, a volume in the ink accommodation chamber 21 is variable and the pen element 10 and the ink 22 are divided by an openable/closable valve unit 40 is characterized by that the capillary force is given to the ink accommodation chamber side of the opening part of the valve unit 40.
