PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device using an electromagnetic induction heating device designed so as to restrain heat from being dissipated from a fixing roll or fixing belt or from being transferred to other members during a warmup period, shorten a warmup time, and reduce power consumption. SOLUTION: The fixing roll 1 is composed of a conductive metal core. The electromagnetic induction heating device 3 is disposed opposite the fixing roll 1. During a warmup period, the fixing roll 1 is rotated at a speed lower than that assigned for a regular fixing operation, and a pressure roll 2 is separated from the fixing roll 1. After the fixing roll 1 is heated by the electromagnetic induction heating device 3, the fixing roll 1 is passed through a location opposite the pressure roll 2 without being in contact with the pressure roll 2. This prevents heat from being transferred to the pressure roll 2 from the fixing roll 1. In addition, since the speed at which the surface of the fixing roll 1 comes into contact with air around the surface is made lower, a quantity of heat dissipated into air from the fixing roll 1 can be restrained.
