PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "a map data creating method and a map display device" for creating a map wherein redundant indication of a road name is suppressed. SOLUTION: When a road 301 and a road 302 constituting a single route but running in the opposite direction are respectively defined as an independent road, the respective road names of these two roads 301 and 302 such as "I-20-BL W" 311 and "I-20-BL E" 312 (b in the figure) are not indicated but the common part of the road names of the road 301 and 302 "I-20-BL" 313 is indicated (a in the figure) between the two roads 301 and 302 as the road name of the two roads 301 and 302.
