Described is a flat plate calorimeter based on the cold water calorimetric technique for evaluating the amount of solar energy concentrated by a point-focus concentrator. The concentrated solar energy is absorbed in the outer portion of a metal receiving plate, which opto-thermal properties of the surface thereof are already known. The heat transference is therefore carried out by conduction up to the inner surface of the receiving plate. Said heat is transferred to a refrigerating fluid flow which radially covers the plate. Based on an energy balance and an evaluation of the heat collected by the refrigerating fluid flow, which is measured by the difference in temperatures during the entrance and exit of the calorimeter, the amount of solar energy present in the receptor of a solar concentrator may be evaluated.
