<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument, which does not require a plurality of tools for a surgery, curtails a time period for the surgery and possibility of error in the surgery, and prevents damage in a retina. <P>SOLUTION: The multifunctional surgical instrument with a multifunctional tip for use in ophthalmic surgery is disclosed. The tip may provide a source of illumination, a pick, and another tool such as a scraper, knife or spatula.
