<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which exhibits high luminous efficiency and has a long service life, and to provide a lighting device and a display device using the organic electroluminescent element. <P>SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element, at least one of organic layers on a substrate is a light-emitting layer containing a phosphorescent compound and a host compound. The host compound is represented by general formula (7-2).
