PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber transparent glass preform by removing OH groups efficiently when a porous preform is made into transparent glass.SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a transparent glass preform for optical fiber, a porous glass preform having a through hole extending in a longitudinal direction is heated at a high temperature while feeding a mixed gas of a helium gas and a chlorine gas into the through hole, so that the porous glass preform is changed into transparent glass thereby to manufacture the transparent glass preform for the optical fiber. The porous glass preform can be formed by: arranging a metal rod in a container; injecting a mixed liquid for clad layer containing a hardening resin and SiOparticles and a hardening agent for solidifying the mixed liquid by a self-hardening reaction, into the container; and removing the container and the metal rod from the solid after the mixed liquid for clad layer is solidified. |
