PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, an image forming unit, and a cleaning control method with which whether to cause a cleaning part to clean an image carrier and its cleaning time can be controlled with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image carrier that carries an electrostatic latent image; a motor that rotates the image carrier; and a cleaning part that cleans the image carrier. The image forming apparatus measures a transition time during which the motor makes a transition from a stationary state to a rotation state at a predetermined specific speed (step S24), and controls whether to cause the cleaning part to clean the image carrier on the basis of the measured transition time (step S26).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
