PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic unit which generates character data, contains the protection device of data stored in a memory, can obtain sufficient security with respect to illegal copy and can easily be used. SOLUTION: A random number generator 50 giving numbers to respective electronic units mounting memories for preventing the copy of a memory 28 is installed. The numbers are stored in the memory for later reference. A generator 50 is constituted of a potentiometer formed of two resistors R1 and R2 where resistance values having large permission values are decided and it is applied to a cellular AMPS network and the like.
