PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable and inexpensive means for manufacturing a high performance metal sheet for shadow mask, causing no warpage even after etching. SOLUTION: Annealing at 550-650 deg.C ultimate sheet temperature is applied to a metal sheet for shadow mask after cold rolling or shape straightening. In this case, it is preferable that the metal sheet for shadow mask is constituted of a stainless steel having a chemical composition which consists of 9-20% Cr, <=0.15% C, 0-1.0% Mn, 0-0.2% Ti, 0-1.0% Si, 0-1.0% Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and in which the contents of P and S among the inevitable impurities are regulated to <=0.05% and <=0.03%, respectively.
