PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic composite material having high biodegradability, transparency and flexibility and resistant to water, abrasion, etc., and provide a molded article such as sheet produced by using the composite material. SOLUTION: The objective biodegradable organic-inorganic composite material is produced by reacting three components comprising (A) at least one kind of biodegradable oligomer selected from aliphatic polyester and aliphatic polyether and having an average molecular weight of 300-5,000, (B) at least one kind of metallic compound selected from metal alkoxide, metal chelate and their partial hydrolysis products and (C) a biodegradable polymeric polysaccharide or polyvinyl alcohol.
