PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition having flame retardance and high heat resistance, useful for producing a prepreg, a composite material, a laminate and a printed wiring board by making the composition include a specific phosphorus-containing compound containing an epoxy group and a phosphorus- containing compound containing a substituent to be reacted with an epoxy group as a curing agent. SOLUTION: This composition comprises an epoxy group-containing phosphorus-containing compound of formula I (m' and n' are each 1-11; X is O, S or an electron pair; T is O or the like; A is a group of formula II or the like; R" is a 1-4C alkyl or the like), etc., and a phosphorus-containing compound containing a substituent to be reacted with an epoxy group [e.g. a compound of formula III (m' is 0-10; R' is a 1-4C alkyl or the like; Z1 and Z2 are each OH or the like) or the like] as a curing agent. Preferably the composition comprises further 0-95 wt.% of a phosphorus-free epoxy compound (e.g. biphenol, etc.), and 0-95 wt.% of a phosphorus-free curing agent (e.g. novolak resin, etc.).
