PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation of the sense of quality and facilitate insertion of a surface leather end by forming an engagement groove to admit insertion of the end of a surface leather material to be mounted on a panel base member in such a way as having an angle not visible from the side with passenger's seats. SOLUTION: An engagement groove 30 to admit insertion of the end 48 of a surface leather material 46 to be affixed to the surface 24 of a body part 22 is extended across the car width between the edge 32 of the body part 22 and the edge 34 of an upper plate 26 and arranged so as to have a requisite depth down approx. in the vertical direction from the surface 24. Accordingly the groove 30 is not visible from the side with passenger's seats, and an instrument panel is prevented from dropping in the sense of quality. Further, because the groove 30 is formed facing down approx. in the vertical direction, the inserting work of the surface leather end 48 can easily be performed.
