The invention relates to a method for determining the properties of a co-ordinate measuring device (23) by probing the test bodies (73, 74). The aim of the invention is to determine a set of points for each test body from points in the co-ordinate system relating to the base, to calculate a centre for each test body from the reference points of the set of points associated with the respective test body to calculate the rotational axis in the co-ordination system relating to the base as a straight line which extends through the centres calculated for the test bodies. The invention also relates to a method for determining the deviations in the angle between direction x and direction z or between direction y and direction z or between direction x and the direction y from the right angle and between scales of the measuring system in the direction x and direction y. The invention also relates to a calibrating body which can be used in a method for determining the properties of the co-ordinate measuring device.
