PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detection method and a position detecting device capable of performing accurate measurement of the position of a movable body which generates vibration at stoppage, with high reliability and in a short measurement time. SOLUTION: In this method for detecting the position of the lens support 7 of a lens drive apparatus 1, which stops at a position where an electromagnetic force produced by causing a predetermined current to flow (unit drive force) into the coil 15 and a biasing force of the spring 9, 11 are in balance, the lens support 7 having a coil 15 on its periphery is arranged on the inner circumference of a case 5, 6 where magnets 13 are arranged and is supported freely movably by springs 9, 11; a unit drive current flow to the lens support 7 for detecting the position of the lens support 7 of a lens drive apparatus 1, which stops at a position where electromagnetic force generated by causing a predetermined current to flow (unit drive force) into the coil 15 and the biasing force of the spring 9, 11 are in balance; the lens support 7 is stopped accompanying vibration after moving a predetermined amount; the position of the lens support 7 is measured continuously; the average value of the measured position values of the lens support 7 is found at each predetermined time interval; the numbers of value groups whose average values are the same are counted and compared; and the value of pieces with the largest number is set as the moved position by the unit drive current.
